my hundred-foot journey

Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon in The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)

Last week, we had the privilege of participating in a free screening at the Chase Park Plaza Cinemas of The Hundred-Foot Journey. This was not necessarily a movie on my radar; however, it was beautiful. The immersion of culture, food, and humanity is all poured in a boiling pot of stew to create a delicious story of a lifetime. The movie does not come out until Friday, August 8th (this upcoming Friday) but I encourage all to go see it when it does. The flavors of the characters are thought-provoking and they are deliberate in expressing their story through food and family.

I walked out of the movie theater feeling reenergized. It is an awakening feeling that I have been aware of more and more in the recent weeks. It is as if I can smell more distinctly, see sharper, feel more depth of everything -- as if my senses are heighten. I realize that it is primarily because I have been digging deep into my creative side more; however, it has been awhile so I am still amazed by rediscovering this side of me.

Directly after the movie, my husband and I felt as if a evening snack was essential to wrap up our date night. A quick trip to Trader Joe's for some meat, tomatoes, and wine. On our drive home, I noticed the moon in the distance. The sun had barely set as the summer nights are still fairly long. The moon was a sliver of existence. Red, glowing on the horizon.

"It's almost so faint, you lose track of it," my husband said.

I feel like those words encompassed our entire evening. It's almost so faint, you lose track of it. The Hundred-Foot Journey is about passion, creativity, and spice. However, as I have felt in the past weeks, sometimes that creativity, that passion, that spice becomes so faint, you may begin to lose track of it. Let it slip away. Forget that it even exists. I am grateful that I have recently began to breathe in the breathes of today, live in the presence, and soak in the spices and joy of this season of life.
