january's recap :: invest

Here’s to a truth-telling, risk-taking, memory-making year. Here’s to a year full of love, of hurdles, and of uncomfortable leaps. Here’s to writing more, complaining less, and trusting exponentially. Full of pictures. Full of laughter. And full of new experiences.

The Scripture talks about seasons of sowing and reaping in your life. In Psalms, it talks about sowing in tears and reaping in joy. That verse is saying that the sowing seasons are usually the most difficult. It’s hard to keep a good attitude when all your friends are being blessed, but you’re not. You may feel like they don’t work as hard as you do. You may feel like they don’t give like you do or don’t deserve the blessing. That’s a time of testing. It’s hard to go through disappointments and stay positive and hopeful. These are seasons of sowing. If you’ll do the right thing even when it’s hard—when you sow in tears—you will always reap in joy! I’m asking you to have a new attitude toward what God has placed in your heart. It may be taking a long time, but God still has a plan to bring it to pass. Don’t give up. Your time is coming. It’s never too late! God is saying, “This is your season. Keep your faith stirred up.” Keep sowing because in due season, you will reap the bountiful harvest with a song of joy in your heart!

One month ago. Over one month ago, I wrote those words. One month ago we had less joy, less laughter, and less tears. It has been a trying month, ending with some major stuff. Stuff that I may not share for awhile. Stuff that I may never share. I apologize. I'm sorry.

January was the month for investing. Investing in my health. My job. My marriage. My relationship with the Lord. Wow. It grew, and how different am I than yesterday or last week. I wanted to be in a place where I naturally asked myself each day "how am I investing into today? how am I making today meaningful, purposeful, and an enhancement to my story?" I would love to say that I am. Thank goodness my goals are surrounded by grace. It is still taking work. It is still a choice in the morning to be intentional with my day. But I'm okay with that.

2015 | invest

I set a few goals, and I wanted to give an update on them before moving into February (even if it is over a week in) ::

Read the Bible and journal everyday.

I am 20 days into January's scripture from SheReadsTruth. Not every day have I been reading my set scripture to get through the Bible this year. But I have been listening to sermons more, reading verses more, and reflecting and praying more -- and that's a huge success.

Develop 10 healthy lunches (to save money & eat better during the workweek).

Check. Check. And check.

Organize our family’s 2015 financial goals.

Our monthly finances meetings have moved into a bi-weekly adventure. I may get a chances to shed some light on this and how our life looks during these meetings later this month.

Network, network, network.

A week in Vegas at a conference and a few phone chats later, my network has grown tremendously. This is seriously still a work in progress though.

Work on my branding (for my HR life, my photography life, and my blogging life).

Let's just say I'm still working...

Read “Eat, Move, Sleep” by Tom Rath

Half way through. And starting a new online book study today. Oh boy.
