One of my favorite crafted pieces from our wedding day is our soda trough. If you spend enough time around me, you will quickly find out that I am not a Pepsi girl. Or a Coke girl. Or even a Diet Coke girl (even though my husband definitely is). I live on RC Cola. It is so hard to find outside of the Midwest and may be one of the main reasons that we will never move too far away. In my hometown, you could buy this delight in 24-can packs, at the local hot dog shop, or in the only quartered soda machine on Main Street right outside of the post office.
Thankful, St. Louis is also one of the main bottling cities for RC Cola! (yah!) After many of phone calls and an awkward meet-up with a guy at a sketchy gas station, we had our soda. RC Cola for me. Diet Coke for my husband. And Ski (a lemony-orange local drink), root beer, and orange soda for our guests.
A few galvanized buckets, some paint spray & screws, a handful of wooden boards, and an original sign from my dad's garage and our soda trough was made. It was such a hit!
Sometimes when you’re given an idea, the final product becomes far grander than the original thought. A Pinterest inspired watering hole brought to life for my wedding entered the stages of a second wedding for a dear family friend of ours and her newly declared husband from Kenya just a few weeks after our wedding. With their ceremony live-streamed over the Internet for over 50 people to view half across the world, the multi-cultural festivity was brought back to deep southern American roots of country towns, moon pies and RC Cola.
Now our trough is onto its next proposed wedding in Central Illinois via a CraigsList listing, to entertain individuals as they celebrate the most joyous day of their lives thus far. I couldn’t be happier that it will continue to bring joy to weddings to come.
