Here is a little bit more about Bumble Buzz Baybeez in interview style with owner, Rachel:
How did you get your shop started?
It all started as a hobby. After being taught to knit by my mother at a young age and later teaching myself to crochet, I started creating primarily babies apparel for gifts and my own children. I had so many people commenting on the high quality of my work that I decided to start selling just a few things via a store in my home town. My sales then progressively moved to the internet and what was once a hobby, is now a business. I would like to get back to perhaps going to a few local markets here on the Gold Coast however with everything else doing so well....lack of time is my issue.
What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
This one is easy!! So many ideas and so little time. I am sure that this is every creative persons problem. I work alone and I have strict quality standards that I am unwilling to compromise on, so fulfilling orders takes up a lot of my time. I am always trying to stretch the day a little further to incorporate new products and I am also creating a line of my own patterns which I hope to release early in the new year.
What is one thing unique about you?
I found this a very hard question to answer..so I asked my family. Among a lot of strange answers they all agreed on one thing. They all said that I was a perfectionist. I did state that this was not something unique, but my husband replied that in this day and age that it is indeed a rarity. I wouldnt call myself a perfectionist but I am quite committed to doing the very best that I can in every aspect of my personal life and in relation to my work by striving to produce the best items that I can.
What is the best part of owning a shop?
I enjoy being able to share the love of my craft, creativity, ideas and visions with others. I quite often receive photos of my little customers wearing their Bumble Buzz items. It is a great reward to know that something that I've created has made someone happy and that they are pleased with my work.
How did you get your shop name?
It started in quite a backward fashion of searching for the logo first. I settled on the little bee and after that is was just quite simply a play on words.
What is one way that you keep organized?
I am a very naturally organized person. I have everything in order and believe that the key to being organized lies within time management. I am not an impulsive person and try to plan and make allowances for most things that I do. Sometimes I wish that I was a little more spontaneous.....but a leopard cant change its spots!!
How do you balance family life and work life?
Short answer...a very understanding family. I have a husband and four boys ranging in age from 8-18....so I have always been lucky enough to be the "Queen" of the household. They all accept that my work often infringes upon my time with them but on other occasions, gives my the freedom to spend time with them that someone with a "conventional" career would not have the opportunity to do.
