Thank you, Raincoast Mom and Babe, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2016 Shop Small Christmas series. I was selected for this opportunity by Raincoast Mom and Babe; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
I don't know about you but teething is a pain. Drool plus the inability to be able to wear all of my favorite necklaces is not my favorite part of motherhood... However, I want to introduce you to Raincoast Mom and Babe.
Raincoast Mom and Babe makes the most adorable teething necklaces that I have been eyeing this season. The owner, Jen, makes all of her necklaces out of high quality BPA free food grade silicone beads. The material is soft and safe for new and emerging teeth. Having one (or a few) ensures that I can always have something at hand for my little Ollie to chew, and man he's loving my jewelry. And it's fun to wear necklaces again! All designs are made with breakaway clasps in case the pulling is too much, which I know Ollie also loves to pull on things. Great news for this shop small feature -- check out her shop over on Etsy and use the coupon code BABYABODE until December 6th for 15% off for yourself!
Here is a little bit more about Raincoast Mom and Babe in interview style with owner, Jen:
How did you get your shop started?
My first daughter was starting to chew and pull at everything. I saw a teething necklace and fell in love with the practicality and style. I liked the look of the fully beaded necklaces but I also have long hair and found that it got tangled in the beads enough to make it less practical. I took my first teething necklace apart and made it into two. After that, I was hooked.
What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
Making time for some of the less exciting tasks like paying taxes and accounting.
What is one thing unique about you?
I enjoy making new designs that I think moms and babies will love. I’ve made some flops along the way but it’s exciting to come up with something original that is well received by the Etsy community.
What is the best part of owning a shop?
My working career has never involved much creativity prior to this. Although my Etsy shop is not equivalent to a full-time job, it is great to have a source of income where creativity and play are key.
How did you get your shop name?
When my first daughter came around life did change, and we spent lots of time together for the first few years. I was trying to think of something that reflected this stage and Raincoast Mom and Babe just seemed to fit. We spent lots of time outside here in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada where it’s known for being a little wet through the winter more than snowy.
What is one way that you keep organized?
I would say that Etsy keeps me organized. This is not my strong suit so it’s great to have all the tools to keep track of orders and timelines.
How do you balance family life and work life?
They balance each other out. Giving myself the time to make necklaces or work on other things helps me be a better mother. It’s great to have little ones around all the time but nice to have breaks too.
Be sure to check out Raincoast Mom and Babe this holiday season for your jewelry needs or for that upcoming baby shower or momma friends this Christmas season!
