Thank you, Sought Crafter, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2016 Shop Small Christmas series. I was selected for this opportunity by Sought Crafter; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
It is officially Christmas. Like for reals... where my husband won't complain about the Christmas music or holiday decor. Yay! I am over the moon with my excitement to introduce you to Sought Crafter. Sought Crafter has been hanging out in our home for awhile now because this home decor piece can live in our home from September to March with a friendly fall face on one side and flipped around for a jolly snowman on the other. I just love it.
Wooden signs and games are the owner's, Holly, speciality. Painted perfectly, our scarecrow-snowman piece is my absolute favorite from her shop. As her daily therapy from just plain ol' life stuff, including heartbreaking infertility, she crafts away at the end of her day to help transition her work day to an evening with her hubby. Check out her shop over on Etsy and use the code "HOLIDAYS" will get you 15% off any purchase!
Here is a little bit more about Holly, the owner of Sought Crafter:
How did you get your shop started?
I have been making gift and projects for friends and family for a long time. Everyone kept telling me, you should sell your creations. It took me a while, but with the support of my husband and family, I am able to pursue that now.
What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
I am working full time and doing my shop on the side, so I would say figuring out a schedule and making sure I have enough time. My shop is fairly new (since August), so I am still working on this.
What is one thing unique about you?
I struggle with infertility. I don’t like to focus on it, but it is a part of who I am. My husband and I will be married for 10 years this January. We wanted to start a family right away, but that wasn’t in the cards for us. I go through highs and lows, but I have found that my crafting is a type of therapy for me. It makes me happy. I am hopeful and am keeping my faith that we will have our family one way or another.
What is the best part of owning a shop?
Besides the extra income (which is a perk), I enjoy my time doing it. I turn up some music, Christmas music this time of year , and let all else go for that while. I also enjoy the feedback from my customers; it is always nice to hear the positives. I also appreciate any advice to improve my creations or shipping methods.
How did you get your shop name?
I was talking with my sisters about opening a shop and we threw around names for about a week. I wanted to make sure the name was something that was easily remembered. I really can’t remember which one of us came up with it, but as soon as I heard Sought Crafter, I knew it was the one.
What is one way that you keep organized?
That is probably the hardest part for me right now. I have a craft room in our basement, but as of right now it only has the stud walls and electricity. Our winter project is to complete it and build lots of shelving and drawers!!
How do you balance family life and work life?
I get off of work a few hours before my husband most of the year (he is in construction), so I work on my crafts when I get home for a while, then make supper, and spend the rest of the night with him. We also do many projects together. He is a big help and a great support for me. I am very lucky to have such a great husband.
Sought Crafter makes by far one of my most favorite home decor items for this holiday season. With the ability to have it highlighted in my home fall through winter, it will light up our foyer for months!
Thank you Heather. I am glad you like your sign. Have a great Holiday season!
