As many of you already know, reading is important around the Bahorich home. We have invested in more books than I am willing to admit and have bookshelves upon bookshelves of things to read at all times. One thing that I will always say yes to for baby Ollie is a book, which is why we are doing an "Advent" calendar of books this year.
I look for books that will hopefully interest Ollie (and us). Ones that will be durable, have a great story line and message, and ones that will be educational. I also tend to draw near the ones that have beautiful drawings or images and ones that not only meet our needs right now, but also a book we can "grow into". This year, our books are a complete mix. Some are seasonal and others are inspirational or biblical. Others are just random picks.
I recently discovered that National Geographic Kids has some really beautiful books. I’m not sure if you have any in your collection, yet, but they are just what you would expect from this iconic brand of news media and full of educational material without the bore. National Geographic Kids Hey, Baby!: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery is a beautiful hard cover book that I can’t wait to share with the Ollie this season. This is the perfect book for his learning mind and will continue to live with us for years to come.
Hey, Baby! features beautiful photographs, stories, and poems, plus factual information about animals and nature. The book is organized by habitat. Each section opens with a poem and ends with a precious photo gallery of “more itty bitty babies” called a Tot Lot. In between are profiles and pictures of each animal, along with special stories of unusual animal frienships, animal rescue, and global folktales.
Hey, Baby! introduces your kids to the cutest, cuddliest, and cleverest baby animals of land, air, and sea—each with its own extraordinary life story. From the teensiest turtle hatchling to the biggest baby whales, you will ooh and aah all over the place as you discover the sweet wee ones of the animal planet. The book featuring stunning color photographs, fact-filled profiles, whimsical poems, and more. I know it will quickly be a favorite in our home. I plan on keep it around for reading to our sleepy little Ollie at bedtime, but also helping him learn the names and sounds of the animals during our play! He personally loves making a monkey sound right now!
I'm learning so many things just from reading it myself. Like did you know that baby porcupines are called porcupettes? Or sea otters sometimes hold each others hands while sleeping? How neat is that? I also didn't know that baby koalas and baby kangaroos are both called joeys, and meerkats are great babysitters. So funny!!
Hey, Baby!: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery is available to purchase wherever books are sold, including traditional bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million, as well as local independent stores, and mass merchants like Target, Costco, Walmart, and Amazon.com. Plus, purchases of National Geographic Kids books supports the exploration, research, and conservation efforts of the National Geographic Society, which is a win-win in my book. This gorgeous, hardcover book is a great value ($24.99) and the perfect keepsake gift for families, new parents, and moms-to-be.
