Thank you, Milk & Baby, for sponsoring this post, Style Tips for Breastfeeding Moms with Milk & Baby. I was selected for this opportunity by Milk & Baby; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
This week has been all about breastfeeding. Honestly I did not even mean to do a whole week around breastfeeding, but the reality is with a three week old, breastfeeding tends to be all we think about around here. My milk is regulating, Lillie is still cluster feeding, and I am getting to try out all of my new favorite breastfeeding products again now that we are getting more settled. On Monday, I shared with y'all how excited I am about my new breast pump backpack by Idaho Jones to help my travels while breastfeeding with our newest little one, Lillie, as well as a stellar coupon code for you. Yesterday, we deep dived into my new breast pump by Motif Duo that is going to make my pumping and traveling to and from work meetings that much easier.
But now that we have the gear (or at least a super stylish bag and convenient pump), what am I planning on wearing through the next year?
I was completely floored when I started breastfeeding Ollie how much of my pre-pregnancy clothes just did not fit. It was not necessarily because my body did not bounce back from my pregnancy weight, because it did for the most part, but it was due to my new breastfeeding figure... and by that, I mean, my boobs. This may be a little more forward than I usually am, but I want to be honest. I did not think that my graphic tees would not fit anymore because of my boobs and their milk. I was not ready for it at all.
So after a few month of buying flowy and loose fitting tank tops during the summer Ollie was born, I knew that this was a more long-term situation, and I needed a better solution. Even working from home, I knew I could not live in the same few tank tops and t-shirts, and this new style decision was not allowing me to love my post-baby body. By the end of my breastfeeding journey eleven months later, I finally cracked the secret code to dressing while breastfeeding. In fact, I realized I don’t have to dress that differently and can maintain my personal style as long as I keep in mind a few things.
Here are four styles that are perfect for breastfeeding mothers.
1. Wrap & nursing friendly dresses
Wrap dresses can be found in so many different styles, colors and prints and are perfect for breastfeeding. They provide easy access for feedings and look cute. Many nursing dresses come in this style but even non-nursing wrap dresses work just fine as well. For a different variety, you can also find really adorable nursing dresses that are not necessarily the "wrap" design.
2. Supportive nursing bras
You will never feel great in your top without a good bra underneath. This is one lesson that took me almost my entire breastfeeding journey with Ollie to understand. I originally thought that I could manage with some hand-me-down breastfeeding tanks and clearance rack nursing bras to get me through; however, none of tanks or bras ever fit quite right and did not help me love my postpartum body any more either.
3. Nursing tops from Milk & Baby
I love these maternity and nursing tops from Milk & Baby because they’re affordable, comfortable and versatile. You can wear them while you’re pregnant and even after when baby is born. Many of their designs are easy to nurse in without hindering style. Plus, most folks don't even know that you are wearing something that was designed specifically for breastfeeding! I love my sweatshirt and have been living in it while we have had visitors over the past few weeks.
4. Functional nursing covers
I really fell in love with nursing covers during my first breastfeeding journey with Ollie. I have some that I just use for nursing; however, many of them I can wear as an adorable stylish accessory as a scarf. I love how soft they are and multi-functional they can be.
