Living a toxin free and healthier lifestyle has been an easier transition over the years than I originally anticipated. And trust me, I had all of the obstacles and objections in my head...
"It is going to cost more."
"I don't have the time to DIY everything."
"The clean products are not going to work as good."
False. False. And false.
The first thing I promised myself when I started down this wellness journey was to never 'beat myself up' for where we were in the process. And it is a process. I would do it little by little, and over time. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. And the more I used up my cancer-causing, chemical-filled products throughout my house, the more I made the switch to products that are made with more wholesome and plant-based ingredients.
Oxi-Clean was one that I was still holding on to. As a mom of two little bitty babies, I felt like I could not live without the stain-killing machine of Oxi-Clean. Nothing was going to get that poop-filled onesie clean like my beloved Oxi-Clean. I mean, it takes the power of oxygen to fight your stain that's chlorine-free and dye-free. That has to be "green".
Again. False.
Obviously I knew this. Yet when I looked up OxiClean on the EWG's website (a great organization that rates ingredients for us and the environment) and saw that the product had ingredients linked to cancer, skin allergies & irritation, and asthma/respiratory, I knew it had to go. Alarmingly enough on its own, the EWG give OxiClean a "F" rating, and it is just like school... this is no good!
So when I saw this stain stick circulating on Instagram, I was skeptic. Okay, maybe minor stains, but we had toddler and baby stains over here. There was no way that it would touch those. False, again... Over the past four weeks, we have used this mix on chocolate, blood, baby blow-outs, olive oil, grass stains, and red popsicle.
I T W O R K E D O N A L L O F T H E S T A I N S !
Not only did it work, but it was so amazingly simple to make. I would not even call it a "DIY". I do more mixing with a quick and easy dinner! I did find that I like the stain stick for our diaper bag, and we mixed a full on spray bottle of it for the laundry room. The stick was great, but we flew through the mix and I needed something that would last longer than one or two loads. Half Thieves Household Cleaner and half Thieves Dish Soap... that's it! No matter the size of the bottle, it is just equal parts soap and household cleaner. It cannot get any simpler than that!
There's different variations out there on the internet; however, this is the one that works for us and I'm sure the others do just as good. I just want to share what we do and what is working for us.
