During our Midwest summer, we need bug spray. Insect repellent is simply a necessity around here. With two young kids, I have been experimenting with deet-free mosquito repellents for a few years. Before last summer, I had to make my own completely from scratch because I wanted to minimize the toxic chemicals on my skin. How to Use Insect Repellent
Young Living's Insect Repellent comes in a squirt bottle, so you have to get it on your hands and rub it onto your skin. This is not really an issue, but I wanted something that was easier for the kids and provided an even application.
When I saw these spray bottles on Amazon and immediately ordered a couple to see if they would work with the insect repellent. OH MY GOODNESS I’m in love! It works SO well (better than I had hoped for) and sprays an even spray all over.
And this spray bottles helps me make this insect repellent last longer. I can get 3-4 spray bottles out of the bug spray concentrate.
How to make:
- In a 10-oz spray bottle, add 2oz of YL Insect Repellent.
- Add a few oils. I added an extra 10 drops of Citronella and 5 drops Geranium.
- Top with vodka or with hazel (leaving about half an inch room for the sprayer)
- Voila. Give a quick shake before using. Spritz & enjoy the great outdoors!
The Young Living repellent contains pure sesame oil and specially selected essential oils known to traditionally have bug-repellent properties. These essential oils make up all 99 percent of the active ingredients in this formula. The other 1 percent? Vitamin E.
