Friends, I'm so excited about this one. It's been on my list to share with you for some time now and I apologize in advance for not sharing sooner. As we were prepping to bring Lillie home over three years ago, I knew that I did not want her room splashing full of pink. Funny enough, I still managed to get a pink-everything little girl. Yet, I'm so thankful that her room decor was a bit muted to all-things-pink!
How to Make a DIY Modern Dollhouse Bookshelf
The Bahorich family is frugal to say the least. We love a good deal and are working on paying off debt every where we turn. I scored this dollhouse bookshelf on Facebook Marketplace for under $20 and went to work! It initially had crayon marks and stickers all over it. It was an adventure to get that bookshelf cleaned up!
I did not know it at the time but this bookshelf shaped as a dollhouse was originally from Target, the Circo brand, and seemingly was made fairly well. It feels like real wood and cleaned up nice. I have also seen similar styles on Wayfair recently that look nearly identical.
This paint was really the superstar of this project. After taping everything off I got to painting! Spray light layers and not too close. It took two cans of vanilla cream white and part of navy blue. I sprayed what I could and then rolled the rest. I love using spray paint when I can because it sticks better in my opinion during these instances, but it is not always an option.
And the house was done! That took me the good part of the day. Projects ALWAYS take longer than I think they will.
And that’s the story of our Facebook Marketplace doll house find! I am so happy that after three years of toddler wear and tear, it still looks magnificent. Lillie will most definitely have a full on doll house from my childhood in our basement for her Barbies in the near future, yet this option has been great for housing her keepsakes, bows, and books over the past few years!
