When it comes to baby gear and playtime, we find that those two things go together. We try our hardest to be a fairly minimalist family when it comes to toys and baby gear. We have never owned a rock and play. We have never seen a need for a sound machine. And there is honestly so much more that we have skipped on from the "must haves" for most other parents. It keeps our costs down, but more importantly, it keeps the kids things from cluttering our home.
When it came to adding Lillie to our house, I knew that the baby "stuff" would likely increase. We did not need a whole lot of extras beyond what we had from Ollie, but there were a few items I wanted to upgrade or swap out for our little girl. I have found that the baby gear that we used the most had a multi-function or multi-purpose to it. The items that we could incorporate play as well as function found their ways into our hearts the most.
So when I looked at upcoming our playmat or baby gym, I wanted something that we would use well and often. There are so many different baby gyms out there on the market that it is honestly hard to decipher which one is the best. As Lillie develops and grows, I knew I wanted one that focused on a playtime learning adventure for the whole family! So when we were sent the Gymotion Lay To Sit-Up Play Gym to review from Yookidoo, I was excited for Ollie to share it with little Lillie as they both grow.
At the heart of it, the Gymotion Lay To Sit-Up Play Gym is a three stage extra padded play gym that transforms into a supportive, upright, portable seat enabling baby to sit, play, and interact with the world while sitting upright. I honestly love that it has an easy transition from a play gym to a soft, secure and supportive seat for upright sitting and playing. For one, I wanted to make sure that as the second child, Lillie had just as much developmental stimulation as Ollie did as his age. I knew as a second child, we would have to be playing with Ollie as well as working with Lillie on her milestones.
Secondly, for many reasons, we are very conscious of Lillie's milestones and they are super important to us. Because of this, I love that this baby gym has more than 20 developmental activities and plenty of toys to move around:
- A battery operated motion activated musical plane.
- A large double sided tummy time pillow with loops for easy toy attachment.
- A large baby safe mirror for hanging on arch or standing on mat.
- A royal teething rattle.
- An easy to grasp dog rattle with colorful sliding beads.

The Gymotion Lay To Sit-Up Play Gym by Yookidoo has three stages of play. The first stage is the "Lay & Play" which promotes eye focus & depth perception as well as hand-eye coordination and sensory development. The second stage is the "Tummy & Play" which is designed to help promote repeated head lifting, strengthens shoulders, chest and upper body This helps develop a baby's gross motor skills, and the third stage is the "Sit-Up & Play" stage. This allows babies who are just beginning to sit to engage with the world from an upright sitting position promoting interaction and social skills. Ollie loved sitting up as soon as possible and this stage will help promote Lillie with her interaction with her surroundings and teaches cause and effect, develops fine motor skills and encourages curiosity.
One of my favorite things about it is how easy it is to hid away. Like I said before, we try to be a minimalist family when it comes baby things. This is partially due to the stress and anxiety all of the "stuff" causes Dusty and myself. We spend a good portion of our evening picking up the house to reduce the stress a cluttered house causes us. Thankfully, the Gymotion Lay to Sit-Up Play Gym folds up so easily and it takes up so little room. By folding it up flat, we can easily slide it underneath the crib or carry it to a grandparent's house with ease.
I cannot express how grateful we are for this new play gym in our home. Ollie has already became fond of the "flying airplane cow" and has been using it to stimulate his imagination and interact with his sister, and Lillie had laid on it on a number of occasions since she's been home from the hospital and has enjoyed the sensory development the gym has to offer.
